Among hundreds of peaks in Mount Everest Region Island Peak is a special trekking Peak which combines an ascent of Island Peak with a visit to the famous lakes of the Gokyo trekking area and known as one of the easiest peak to summit. Island Peak Climbing allows you exploring different Himalayas of the Everest Himalayan range which are not easily seen from the trekking ground. Other himalays seen in the Everest trekking region in Nepal are not as easy to climb as island peak.

Trekking and short hiking while going to Island Base camp gives you an experienced of adventurous trekking with many Sherpa culture. Summiting Island Peak top makes you feel proud of yourself and encourages you to try to climb other peaks in Nepal. The journey of Island peak climbing starts from Lukla and trek slowly up the Dudh Kosi (Dudh Kosi is a famous big river in Nepal and this valley is given name after this river)

EXACT POINT TO FOLLOW TO ISLAND PEAK FOR ISLAND PEAK CLIMBING IN EVEREST TREKKING REGION:

After a few days we follow the branch way to Gokyo for Island Peak climbing, and after climbing Gokyo RI for fantastic views of Cho Oyu and Everest, we cross the Cho La and descend to Dingboche to prepare for the ascent of Island Peak. Island Peak was the name given to the mountain in 1952 by Eric Shipton's party, when they summated the top Island Peak, who thought it to be reminiscent of an island in a sea of ice. Island peak is the foreign name and it is also known by its Nepali name of Imja Tse peak.

The mountain is an extension of Lhotse Shar, and is located between the Lhotse and Imja glaciers, standing at 6,189m/20,305ft giving panoramic views of the mountains around, valleys and other natural beauties to those who are on top and tempting other from the sayings of summiteers. We ascend by the standard route and although the summit can be reached in one day from base camp, we make use of a high camp. The final ridge is a classic of its kind and from the summit fabulous views can be enjoyed of many Himalayan giants including the immense south face of Lhotse and the huge peak of Ama Dablam.

WHY ITS NAME IS ISLAND PEAK?

Imse Tse peak is more popularly known by the name of Island peak. Eric Shipton's party named island in 1952, as the peak resembles an island in a sea of ice when viewed from Dingboche. Later in 1983, the peak was renamed as Imjatse.Island Peak was first climbed in 1953 by a British expedition team as training for ascending Mt. Everest. The peak is a part of the south ridge of Lhotse Shar and the main lands forms a semicircle of cliffs that rise to the north of the summits of Nuptse, Lhotse, and Lhotse Shar.Before climbing Island Peak, we trek up the Dudh Kosi valley from Lukla, passing through Namche and Tengboche on our way to Kala Pattar and Everest Base Camp Trek which is optional and can be customized as per the need and depending upon intrest of our customers. Fully fit and acclimatized, we then head up the beautiful Imja Khola valley towards Island Peak. Following our ascent of Island Peak, we retrace our route back through Namche to Lukla, and from there we fly back to Kathmandu.
